What is Yin? |

Yin is a calm and quiet, peaceful and effortless energy. A softer less aggressive feel than it's opposite - Yang! Associated with Inhalation and the Moon's feminine presence Yin Energy can be imagined as "still waters"
YIN YOGA is stillness of the body, the breath and the mind!
Passive postures held in stillness for time ( 3-5 minutes) to create an affect (deep stretch, compression and relaxation) on our muscles, joints and connective tissues such as fascia.
"Life requires balance. For every down, there is an up; for every outside, there is an inside. Yoga also requires balance. If you are only doing "yang" style of yoga, the active muscular forms, it may be time to discover the missing half- the "Yin" style of Yoga that works the deep tissues, energy body and mind body. Restorative Yoga
Yoga for Deep Relaxation Restorative Yoga creates space in your body, it's about becoming open, not for deep stretch....just simply putting your body (joints) and your mind at ease. "Restorative Yoga is a the use of props to create positions of ease and comfort that facilitate relaxation and health. Thus, it is not just a compliment to the well-known practice of active Asana (poses). Restorative Yoga is a practice within itself for all people, all stages of yoga experience in all states of health. Without a doubt, restorative Yoga the need for this practice is great in today's exhausting and time-pressured world." Judith Hanson Lasater |
Yoga Nidra (or yogic sleep) is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, like the "going-to-sleep" stage. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. This state of consciousness (yoga nidra) is different from meditation in which concentration on a single focus is required. The yogic goal of both paths, deep relaxation (yoga nidra) and meditation are the same, a state of meditative consciousness called samahdi Yoga nidra is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness. The practice of yoga nidra has been found to reduce tension and anxiety. The autonomic symptoms of high anxiety such as headache, giddiness, chest pain, palpitations, sweating and abdominal pain respond well. It has been used to help soldiers from war cope with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) |
